Leijten Legal processes the following (categories of) personal data of (contact persons of) clients:

- Other (contact) details (telephone number, email address, and similar communication data) as provided by the client;
- Data related to the calculation and recording of fees and expenses, making payments and collecting debts, including the bank account number provided by the client;
- Other data of clients for which processing is required in accordance with or necessary to comply with applicable laws or regulations, such as under certain circumstances processing certain data regarding an identity document and maintaining a list of former clients.
- Suppliers
Leijten Legal processes the following (categories of) personal data of individuals from whom Leijten Legal purchases products or services or who work for these suppliers:
- Personal details (name, first names, initials, title, gender, address, postal code, place of residence) as provided by the supplier;
- Other (contact) details (telephone number, email address, and similar communication data) as provided by the supplier;
- Data related to placing orders, purchasing services, calculating and recording fees and expenses, making payments and collecting debts, including the bank account number provided by the supplier;
- Other data of suppliers for which processing is required in accordance with or necessary to comply with applicable laws or regulations.
- Third Parties
Leijten Legal may process the following (categories of) personal data of third parties (such as individuals who are not clients but whose personal data appear in the files, lawyers, and other advisors with whom Leijten Legal has contact):
- Personal details (name, first names, initials, title, gender, address, postal code, place of residence) to the extent known to Leijten Legal;
- Other (contact) details (telephone number, email address, and similar communication data) to the extent known to Leijten Legal;
- Data related to electronic messages originating from or intended for third parties and data necessary to maintain contact with these third parties;
- Other data of third parties obtained from public sources or provided to Leijten Legal by clients, opposing parties, or third parties in the context of handling a case or settling a dispute.
On what legal grounds does Leijten Legal process your personal data?
Leijten Legal processes your personal data based on one or more of the following legal grounds:
- When necessary for the performance of a contract in which you are a party or the performance of pre-contractual actions at your request;
- When necessary to comply with a legal obligation;
- When necessary to protect our legitimate interests or the interests of a third party;
- With your consent.
If Leijten Legal processes your personal data based on your consent, Leijten Legal will request this separately from you. You may always withdraw your consent. Leijten Legal notes that withdrawing your consent does not affect the lawfulness of the processing of your personal data prior to the withdrawal of consent.
For what purposes does Leijten Legal process your personal data?
Leijten Legal uses the above personal data for the following purposes, specifying the legal basis (a to d) on which Leijten Legal does this for each purpose. When processing is based on the legal basis of ‘legitimate interest,’ this interest is briefly explained.
- To provide requested legal services, including identifying the client and conducting a conflict check to prevent conflicts of interest (a and c: being able to offer and improve the service);
- For the administration of Leijten Legal, including calculating or recording fees or benefits, income and expenses, paying and collecting debts – including involving collection agencies or bailiffs (a, b and c: the importance of maintaining accurate records);
- To deal with any complaints and disputes about the services provided (a and c: to defend rights, maintain and improve existing relationships through good complaint handling, improve the quality of service);

To whom does Leijten Legal provide your personal data?
Leijten Legal does not provide your personal data to third parties (‘recipients’ within the meaning of the GDPR), unless it is necessary for the proper execution of the purposes described in this Privacy Statement, when legally required, or when you have given consent. Third parties to whom the personal data is made available are obligated to handle your personal data confidentially. If these parties are considered ‘processors’ within the meaning of the GDPR, Leijten Legal ensures that a data processing agreement is concluded with these parties that meets the requirements described in the GDPR. Third parties engaged by Leijten Legal who offer services as independent data controllers are responsible for complying with the applicable privacy laws for the (further) processing of your personal data. These may include accountants, notaries, and parties engaged to provide an opinion or an expert report.
Leijten Legal may share personal data of clients, suppliers, and third parties with:
- Suppliers (e.g. software suppliers, bailiffs, courier services, translation agencies, accountants, etc.).
- Counterparties, other lawyers or advisors in the context of services provided;
- Successors in the event that Leijten Legal is acquired by or merges with another company, for example through bankruptcy, and with third parties involved in such a proposed or actual business transaction.
- Courts and government institutions.
- Other parties, such as regulators and other authorities if required by law or with your consent.
For the provision of services, Leijten Legal may transfer personal data to a recipient in a country outside the European Economic Area that offers a lower level of protection of personal data than European legislation. In that case, Leijten Legal will ensure that such transfer of personal data complies with the applicable laws and regulations.
How long does Leijten Legal retain your personal data?
Leijten Legal does not retain your personal data in an identifiable form longer than necessary to achieve the purposes mentioned in this Privacy Statement. Leijten Legal may retain the personal data longer if necessary for the legitimate interests of Leijten Legal.
